| Profile of a graduate |
The graduate of study program Bioorganic chemistry is able with high level of creativity and independency to apply the gained knowledge in academic and industrial research and development laboratories in the areas of chemistry, food and pharmaceutical industry, medicine, agriculture and environment. He manages to design and perform organic syntheses including synthesis of natural products and their analogs, to analyze reaction mixtures, isolate and identify the products. He is able to enter interdisciplinary collaboration and apply the acquired knowledge into other areas of human activities. The graduate is able of real judgment of the reactivity of organic compounds and mechanisms of individual reaction types including sterochemical aspects, using the knowledge of physical chemical principles and molecular modeling, to solve the structures of compounds by modern spectral methods, to use modern laboratory equipment, analytical and separation methods. He has knowledge of modern organic chemistry and structure-property relationships with orientation on biological activity. He is able of independent solving of the theoretical problems in relation to philosophical and social impact of chemistry. |

| Entrance exam - Details |
Applicant is accepted into the maste’s programme without an entrance exam, if the master programme is a acontinuation of the bachelor study programme in the same subject, and if the applicant passed a state examination with the required result equivalent to the state examinations of the bachelor study programme of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at UPJŠ. The standard study-period of the master study programme in that case is two years. If the applicants do not meet the criteria listed above, they can be accepted into the master’s programme on the basis of the results of an entrance exam. In that case, the standard study-period is two or three years. The standard study-period is decided on the basis of the results of the entrance exam and the relevance of the bachelor programme the applicant graduated in. |

| The use of the graduates |
The second cycle of university education prepares students for the third cycle. It is expected that some of the graduates might continue at departments abroad. Graduates have the ability to work individually or in team and solve research tasks in bioorganic chemistry. They can apply the acquired knowledge independently and creatively in reserach and development laboratories, in chemical, pharmaceutical and food industry, medicine, agriculture and environment protection. |

Students receive accommodation according to regulations passed by the University Administration of P.J. šafárik University in Košice. |
| Requirements of accepting foreign students |
Foreign students are accepted on the basis of a contract. There is no tuition fee for study in English. |
